my heart

So, some of you may know that I was supposed to be spending my summer in Panama City Beach working at a Christian summer camp called centrifuge. Well, in the last week all of that has been switched around. I will now be working at the mfuge/centrifuge combo camp in Jackson, Mississippi at Mississippi College. Now, most normal people would be disappointed if they went from working at Panama City Beach to Jackson. I guess I'm just not normal because I am so unbelievably happy. I worked there the summer of 07' and fell in love with the people, the city, the food, the music. I will be the Missions Mobilizer, which means I get to take youth out into the city of Jackson and serve the homeless, needy, hungry, and poor. We also get to minister to inner city children and youth. This is what I love to do.

Here are a few pictures I took in 2007, the last time I worked camp in Jackson. This is my heart.

Girl, where you get your hat at?

If you've ever met me (or read a couple of my blogs) you know I love any and all things ridic. That, of course, includes last night's Oscar fashions!

1. Vanessa Hudgens - 1987 called. They want their dress back. Wait, were you even born then?
2. Tilda Swinton aka the White Witch - You look dead. Please do something about it.

3. Beyonce - You are ALWAYS ridic. America thanks you... sort of. PS- Stop letting your mom make your clothes.

And now for one I really liked...
Taraji P. Henson

I actually missed about an hour in the middle of the Oscars because I had to take a break and watch the new episode of Big Love. So, there may be some ridic fashions I missed. If so, please please let me know!

You're an old man

Happy Birthday Daniel!

I meant to post this yesterday...

A Hidden America

I watched A Hidden America: Children of the Mountains last weekend when it first aired. It has taken me this long to fully digest it. It was filmed in Appalachia and depicted children living in the midst of poverty. It hurts my heart to see such poverty and hurt in such a beautiful place. There is an epidemic of prescription drug abuse, drunkenness, toothlessness, cancer and chronic depression. Schools are lacking technology and even heat and air.

I thought the program was beautiful and touching and eye opening. A few weeks ago I posted this blog. In Brook Fraser's song Albertine she says "Now that I have seen, I am responsible. Faith without deeds is dead." I believe that to be very true. So, I don't really know what all that means specifically for me. All I know is that now that I have seen this program, I can't pretend like I haven't. And I can't pretend like these people don't exist. I feel like it's time to reinvest in these people. It's time to be responsible.

You can watch the entire 20/20 special, A Hidden America: Children of the Mountains here.

tree parade

You will go out in joy, and be led forth in peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
Isaiah 55:12

can I have her?

This is seriously one of the cutest kids I've ever seen in my life.

I'm about 14.

Last night I had a major blast from the past which involved me downloading a LaRue song. Sometimes I get sad because I think there really aren't a lot of people that appreciate the same nostalgic things that I do. And that's probably because I wasn't exactly the typical teenager. I was a church kid. I went to a million concerts. I loved local bands. I knew way too much about lame record labels.

Well, last night Ray and I reminisced for a couple hours. It was good. A few things we discussed: unforsaken, dunamis struggle, the old dream center with those black lights and splatter walls, the new dream center in a cool place but with that dumb tiki hut, shiny shirts (Joey Knapp...), LaRue, alien youth, joy electric, salt, canadian bacon, luc houle, pedro the lion + whiskey at cornerstone, people who hate hymns then suddenly like them, yellow cheese van, murray hill theatre, priests that smoke, Daria... not Dora, KJ-52, relient k, bleach (remember that time I went in their van?), holland the band, holland being sued and changing their name to the lonely hearts, tooth & nail, skanking , ska... and I can't remember much more.

Whew... that list probably doesn't make sense to about 98% of the population. And I'm sorry I wrote a blog you probably don't care about... but it just makes me so uncontrollably happy!

That picture may have been taken in 2003. I can't even remember.

we're all gonna get in a fight!

A few people I wouldn't mind getting in a fight with:

1. Barbra Walters - because if she's going to interview people she needs to learn how to speak correctly.

2. that gross-o I used to work with at the D.O.T. - for trying to talk to me alone and for being a 100% creep.

3. Rosie O'Donnell - for hating me because I'm straight.

4. Kelly Rippa - for being 100% annoying.

5. Heather Mills - for screwing over a beatle.

6. Mrs. Cox, my high school algebra teacher - because she's the worst teacher ever. And because she wears those teacher vests.

7. Marie Osmond - for being in love with her brother.

8. Billy Ray Cyrus - for being in love with his daughter.

9. the deputy in charge of the P.A.L. gym in Clay county- for promising kids a BBQ and ice cream party and then never showing up.

10.my 6th grade principal- for hating me because I'm white and for lunch time lectures. I'm not saying his name because he will probably sue me for slander.

I'm not angry or anything. I've never been in a physical fight, and I probably never will. Haha, We'll see though. One time someone called me a "tough little thing".

Who would you like to fight? Or better yet, who would you like me to fight?

Also, please notice that the picture is from StalloneZone. Literal lol.

hey fruitcake

I'm officially allergic to apples and white peaches. This is pretty much the worst news ever. Actually, I think it might be the pesticides rather than the actual fruit. I might need to consult a doctor for the official diagnosis. Either way, I'm pretty mad about it. Because I can't eat apples, I'm now less American. Because I can't eat peaches, I'm now less southern. I'm basically devastated about that.

In other news, today I really miss my camp friends. I'm not obsessed with camp, but I do love so many of the people I've worked with. This weekend I ended up talking to about 6 of them. It was good for my heart. PICTURES... because I like to look at them.

More reunions are in the future. Next week I will start finding out who I will be working with this coming summer. I'm excited.

Be Good.

some girls get all the luck

Shut up! E! news just informed me that Ryan Adams is engaged to Mandy Moore. You have no idea how saddened I am by this. Now, I'm usually okay with Mandy Moore. She's a brunette (always a plus in my book), has pretty good style, and was in Saved (which is one of my faves). I'm just a little sad to see Ryan off the market. We all know he's an AllisonDrewDelight...
