open our eyes

This video ripped my heart out.

Blindness from Michael Snowdon on Vimeo.

For the last several months my prayer has been that I would be aware of the people around me and the places God puts me in. That I wouldn't be blinded by culture, media, work, obligations, selfishness, etc. That my eyes will be open. That the gospel will always be on my tongue.

birthday month

October is my favorite month for multiple reasons, but mostly because I have so many ladies in my life that were born during these glorious 31 days. First, a couple I missed...
Whitney!

MeLissa!

And today is my sweet Andrea's birthday!

I love these girls so much.

living the gospel seems weird

A few weeks ago I went to Atlanta with some friends from church to attend a Christian leadership conference called Catalyst. In all honesty, I'm usually not a huge fan of gigantic christian conferences. The Christian subculture can be ridiculous and overwhelming. However, this year at Catalyst I was able to hear some really amazing speakers. This clip of Francis Chan was my favorite 10 minutes of the entire conference. He speaks the truth into my life.

hello fall

Well, I think I got about 3 hours of sleep this entire weekend. Why? Because I'm ridiculous. Also, maybe the sushi I had for dinner wasn't the best idea. Sorry boutcha wasabi.

Anyway, it's finally fall here and I'm pretty excited about it. Rather than sweating to death, I can comfortably wear my jeans and cardigans. Apple cider was served at church yesterday morning. After church I went to a fall craft festival. Halloween decorations are up in my house. Wonderful. Speaking of Halloween, I still have no idea what to be. Someone please help me out!

I went on a blog break

I haven't been blogging much recently and I pretty sure it is a direct result of being disgusted with so many blogs I've been reading lately.

-We're insecure so we blog about how cool and secure we are.

-We've been hurt so we blog about how hateful everyone is to us.

-We aren't sure who we are so we blog about who we think we are. Or who we are pretending to be.

It's heartbreaking. Blogging is an easy way to become completely self absorbed... and I really don't want that to happen to me. Does that make sense?

music monday: gungor

In February I posted this Gungor video. On Friday I was able to see them live and was reminded of my the love I felt for them earlier in the year. This is one of the reasons I love them so much:

I'm excited about a band writing songs that are honest and true while at the same time still maintaining quality music.

a letter and a cd

Dear October,
I love you so much. You are my birthday month AND the owner of Halloween. You bring me chilled air, apple butter, falling leaves, pumpkin carving parties, jeans + cardigans + scarves, scary movies, midnight walks, memories of being 15, trips and all the wonderfulness that is fall. I might have an exceptionally short fall/winter this year so I really want to take full advantage of my favorite month.
Love,
Allison

PS- Oooh! This also means I can start my fall twentyten playlist. Who wants a copy? Leave your mailing address or email it to me at allisondemott@gmail.com and I will send you a copy!
