if this old house could talk...

I wish this picture was of my backyard. Okay, so I saw this questionnaire on multiple blogs today and decided I would play along. House questions A-Z. Also, this is really just a blog version of a myspace survey... which I like. Ha.

A- My AIR CONDITIONER is set on: 72 -74. One of my roommates like it to be about 77... but it makes me die and sweat to death.

B- My BEDROOM theme is: cute and colorful and vintage and probably messy.

C- The CAR in the driveway is: RUDE.

D- My DESK looks: I do not have desk. Leanne does though... hers has stuffed dogs on it...

E- The EXACT time I wake up daily is: 6:52am. terrible.

F- The FIRST thing I wash in the shower is: my hair... because i'm clean like that.

G- My GARAGE is filled with: Erin's ugly furniture, Leanne's boxes, a giant old lady painting, tools we don't know how to use, 23847 cans of paint

H- My HOME is: weird. we have strange elephant statues on our coffee table. I do not know why.

I- If you peeked INSIDE my bathroom you'd see: yarn art, cutesy shower curtain, all my make up, awkward sky light,

J- My favorite JUICE is: hmm... I only drink water. However, one time I made apple carrot juice and it was delish.

K- The best part of my KITCHEN is: my anthropologie bowls, my little indian salt and pepper shakers, and the rest of my kitchen is boring.

L- The LAST person who visited my home was: Brie? Ray? Pat? Kat? Louch? One of them.

M- The last piece of MAIL for me was: Liz's wedding invite!
Dear Liz,
If you are reading this I can't make it. Your wedding is in Oregon and I live in Florida.
Love, Allison

N- My NEIGHBORS think I'm: a party animal. duh.

O- If you OPENED my fridge you'd see: so many apples, grapes, almond milk, Erin's fancy apple juice, Leanne's salsa, milka bars, hummus, etc.

P- My last house PARTY was: small group always turns into a house party. and sometimes wednesdays and thursdays. oh, and this coming monday.

Q- A QUICK meal I like to fix is: ice cream?

R- My favorite ROOM of the house is: my bedroom. obviously.

S- The SHAMPOO brand I use is: I don't really know. It's shampoo for brown hair. I need to look into something different though. Suggestions?

T- My largest TELEVISION is: so stupid because the closed captions wont turn off. We hate it so much.

U- UNDER my bed you will find: my crafty-craft box full of sketch books, feathers, paint, brushes, pencils, oil pastels, pens, etc.

V- The last time I VACUUMED was: uhhhh. I hate to vacuum so much. Thankfully we only have one room with carpet in our house.

W- Looking out my WINDOW I see: Marcia Moon in her giant purple rode watering her grass.

X- I wish I had X-TRA: space in the kitchen. We have like no cabinets. Dumb.

Y- My YARD is: Beautiful! Someone mowed... and it definitely wasn't me.

Z- ZZZZZZZ My bedtime is: around 12ish. Maybe like 1ish. Or when I stop getting text messages. Or when Leanne and I decide to stop watching True Blood.

Then end. Please feel free to play along.

Adventures with Jenna again

Day 2 with Jenna was just as great as day 1. We slept in a little, got lunch, got experimental starbucks drinks and headed out to the thrift stores. Here is some documentation of the day:

I got a new dress. JK.

We tried on hats.

Jenna got grossed out by a pig.

We saw the scariest baby.

We thought about calling this lady but then remembered neither of us have a dog.

Awesome huh? We also got amazing turquoise rings that we forgot to document. It was such a great visit. I love her so very much. Today I read this blog of hers and definitely cried.

Adventures with Jenna

Remember this post? Well, it came true last week. Jenna came to visit me! I had not seen her since July and our departure was pretty dramatic and emotional. I mean, we pretty much broke down in the middle of a chick fil-a. No joke. Anyway, we had a pretty wonderful time last week.

We went to Disney's Hollywood Studios / MGM which was great except the rockin rollercoaster was closed. So RUDE.

Then we pretended to be in NYC.

We rode the lamest ride and sat next to the lamest ladies.

We saw an awkward man boob. Moob, if you will.

We missed Sarah and Andrea and everyone else from MC 09' fuge.

We took a silhouette picture with Mr. Potato Head. This was during a 2 hour wait in line for the toy story ride... which ended up being really fun.

We looked at weird Disney things.

I met the Biebz. PS- Can someone PLEASE explaine to me why a signed picture of this kid is worth $400?! Seriously.

We skipped the fireworks.

More to come.

summer list one

This summer I would like to cook/bake/throw together:

1. banana pudding, a southern delicacy. I need to perfect my recipe.
2. hummingbird cake, one of my dad's favorites. My mother's mother used to make it for my dad when they would visit.
3. homemade oatmeal cream pies. This one's been on my list for a while.
4. the perfect summertime pasta salad. Mayonnaise not included.
5. Allison and Leanne's super banana smoothies
6. thematic food for a Wes Anderson movie night and a Jurassic Park movie marathon. Any ideas?

PS- I got two totally awesome vintage pyrex dishes this past week. My collection is growing.

islands in the stream

I'm currently watching Dolly Parton on Oprah and absolutely freaking out. FREAKING OUT. If you know me, you know I LOVE Dolly. About a year and a half ago my sister and I even went on a road trip to Dollywood. Someone please enjoy this moment with me.

beards.org

Excuse me, but why am I just now discovering this site? I love a beard. Well, usually. I mean, only on like cute indie/trendy/band boys. And Santa. My dad used to grow a beard every winter because he was always a king in our church Christmas musical and he didn't want to wear a fake beard. Slightly ridiculous? Yes. These are some of my favorite bearded men...

I looked for a good picture of Justin Timberlake with a beard... but I failed.

summer

I'm so ready for summer.

What I need in my life this summer: sunshine, the beach, red toenails, watermelon, floppy hats, camp visits, river trips, backyard bbq, freckles, road trips, outside concerts, flip flops and ice cream cones.

know nothing stays the same

My first experience with copeland was when I was 17 at a music festival. They played California just as the sun was setting. Magic ensued. There was just something about them. Maybe it was the romantic, yet not overtly mushy lyrics. Maybe it was because no other bands were making music like that at the time. Maybe it was the simplicity of Beneath the Medicine Tree. Maybe it was the sunset.

I believe music and memory are very closely related, especially in my brain. When listening to copeland I remember sing-a-longs, concerts, sunsets, MeLissa, Lauren, Luc, road trips, Orlando, youth, bonding, Cliff, late nights, cute boys, being young and romantic, hope. There is a memory tied to every lyric, song and chord.

Earlier this year they announced their final tour. At first I was incredibly sad, which was weird because I didn't even own their newest album. At that point I hadn't listened to them regularly in years. However, hearing the announcement made me come to the realization that a part of my life was over. I was no longer a young careless teenager. Copeland was such a staple during my late teens. While they are no longer part of my everyday life, I find great comfort in their memory.

awaken the dawn

This is one of the most inspiring videos I've seen in such a long time.

Awaken The Dawn / Intro from Michael Dalton on Vimeo.

It makes me wish I was 16 again.

weekend update

This past weekend has been a whirlwind of fun and craziness. Good craziness, but I think I'm ready for a nap.

- The Extreme Tour arrived in Lake City Thursday afternoon.

- All the bands had great (well, great-ish) shows Friday night.

- I spent a significant amount of time at Marion Street Cafe watching those bands and drinking the most delicious coffee/milk concoction. I have no idea what it was or how to order it again... but it was incredible. For real. Sorry boutcha Starbucks, I might be moving my business.

- Men As Trees Walking stayed a few extra days and played two wonderful worship set at my church. They are living such a great story and I highly encourage you to check out their website. We were really blessed to have them here with us for the last 5 days. 3 of the band members actually stayed at my house for several nights. I really enjoy having a house where I can host people. And force them to eat my muffins. Wait, what?

- Last night I stayed up until about 3:30am (mind you, I get up around 6:45am) watching Yes Man (which was kind of terrible) and hanging out with new and old friends. It was wonderful.

So, how was your weekend? I hope you filled it wonderful things.

come home

A reoccurring theme you may have noticed on my blog is my love for the south. I've lived here my entire life and I can't think of a better place to be. Let's take a moment to appreciate all the amazingness that is below the Mason Dixon line.

Things I love about the south:

- a general sense of friendliness. People wave, smile and ask you about your momma.
- my southern belle friend Andrea. I mean, she was a debutante...
- apple butter. mmmm.
- To Kill a Mockingbird. Oh Harper Lee, thank you for your beautiful words and this depiction of the south.
- NOLA, Savannah, Atlanta, Nashville
- moss
- good southern boys that open the door for you and have sugar-sweet accents. and charm. that charm can kill.
- heat. all the heat.
- banana puddin'. my roommate from PA just had her first taste a few weeks ago.
- warm beaches and cool springs

That's all for now. What do you love about the south?
