scary movie fest

Growing up, I never watched scary movies. Until I was about 14 Jurassic Park was the most frightening movie I had ever seen. And while a T-Rex running at you is in fact terrifying, I felt like I was missing something. Sometime in 9th grade my friend, Lauren, convinced me to watch Scream, her fave movie (hahaha). Since then, I've continued to be brave (sort of) and tackle a few other movies of the not-so-sweet and pleasant genre.

A few I've seen that scared me but I liked them:
The Omen (original)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
Halloween (original)
Freaks
Carnival of Souls -actually, maybe I didn't like this one. It was really creepy.
Psycho
Rear Window

A few I've seen that were kinda dumb and/or not scary:
Amityville Horror (original and re-release)
the new Friday the 13ths
the new Halloweens
Saw -ugh, I only saw the first one and I hated it so much.

Anyway, it's finally starting to feel like fall, which means it's almost Halloween time, which means I need to watch some scary movies. Give me all of your suggestions!

Scream is still a great movie! Not very scary -- definitely not as scary as Jurassic Park, haha -- but it is still pretty good. I am proud of you for being so brave, branching out and watching actual scary movies!

I myself have seen tons and tons of stupid scary movies but not many good ones. I agree that with fall and cold weather comes the horror flicks. If only I could convince Mally of that....

Happy haunting! :)

I'm terrified of scary movies, so these are semi-scary: Silent Hill (kinda disturbing though), 28 Days Later, The Village, old X-Files episodes.
Scary movies are usually so gruesome though. I'd much rather go with a good thriller and leave out all the gore. But that's just little, terrified me.
Enjoy the scary. Tell us what you end up watching!

Lauren - I have a very distinct memory of us watching Silence of the Lambs in my parents family room in the afternoon and me being terrified.

April - I loved The Village and my husband is obsessed with x-files!

Carrie - Great minds think alike. I will go check them out now!

Haha, yeah, I remember we had to watch all the scary movies during the day. We were such wimps back then. But Silence of the Lambs is a pretty creepy movie. Speaking of creepy -- Remember when we watched Jeepers Creepers? Scary at first, then just lame. Lol.

The first half of Jeepers Creepers is the scariest movie I've ever seen. The second half is the dumbest.

I just watched Jurassic Park like a month ago for the first time since I was in middle school... and I have to say I think it's a pretty disturbing movie. People getting eaten is just...?
I can not do horrors. I did like Physco and Rear Window though.
The Shining still scares the crap out of me
