the sun isn't going to die

Where the Wild Things Are was visually stunning, but oh so sad. I hate leaving the theater feeling sad. In the book, Max is just kind of a bad kid. In the movie, Max needs attention and understanding. He has a single parent. He's worried about the sun dying.

The wild things pretty much embodied his emotions and destructive behavior. I liked that they had humanistic features... but that also made it a little more sad. I mean, how am I supposed to feel about these creatures who are hurting, jealous, self conscious, doubting? I think it was even worse because it didn't seem to fully resolve. Am I just being too analytical? Basically, I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster and wanted to cry during about 90% of the movie.

I think the art director should win multiple Oscars. In fact, I think it's one of the most visually beautiful movies I've ever seen. However, I don't think it'll go on any of my favorite movie lists. All in all, it wasn't as good as I was expecting.

On a lighter note, I'm thinking of starting a second blog entitled "The ridiculous things I see people posting on facebook." How do you feel about that?
